Chinese New Year in Paris

Last weekend, Paris was covered in Chinese Street Parades to celebrate the annual Chinese New Year. Each year corresponds to a Chinese animal sign and this year it is the year of the Wood Goat or Sheep. The Chinese zodiac is associated with characters as kindness, warmth and artistic sensitivity. The official Chinese New Year has begun on February the 19th but the major celebrations took place, last weekend, on the 21st and the 22nd of February in various areas of the city.

The first parade of the year took place last Saturday in the Marais District. This cheerful procession of dancers, drummers, dragons and lions winded through the major streets of the 3rd and the 4th districts of Paris. Although it was pouring during almost the whole parade, the atmosphere was very festive and everyone was cheerful.
